When you're me, there are days (not too many) in which you discover the perfect pop song. You know there is of course no such thing as the perfect pop song. But for a brief period, you can't help feeling that the music you are listening to is just flawless. And the only thing that stops you from hearing it over and over is your fear of getting bored of it. And you will get bored of it eventually, but for a while it will remind you of why you spend so much time listening to (and thinking about) music.Of course you are not me, so obviously you may not love (or even like) The Legends' "He Knows The Sun" as much as I do. But you should give it a chance, especially if you wonder how an inspired mid-80s collaboration between The Cure and New Order might have sounded (It also reminds me of Lush's "For Love" which also blew my mind the first time I heard it.) So click here for a 1:20 min sample from the Labrador website (I almost forgot to mention they're one of the Labrador bands) or here to watch the video, featuring a guy in white walking around and two other guys in a Kendo fight. Buy it here.

who is creepy guy??? i will have nightmares.
He's the lead singer of The Legends, and he's not creepy, he just looks like that in the picture.
He's pretty hot, actually. Nice song. Has some very Peter-Hook-of-New-Order-y bass goin' on.
Thanks for popping by my blog, Daavid! Hope to see you there more, I'm adding you to my list of links, 'cause hell, we're all in this togetha!
Also, have you heard The Editors yet? Just got the import today and it's knocking me out.
x
J'ason, I haven't heard the Editors. I'll check them out. Are they Swedish too? I'll be definitely visiting your blog regularly and I'll add it to my links.
Thanks! Posted about The Editors on mine.
He's no creepy at all...- just to add something to this part of the discussion.
I like the song...but it doesn't hit me as a very "poppy" pop song...but i'm illiterate in pop song definitions...so is there a "Seymour" out there who would explain to me what makes a pop song pop?
You're totally right Mo. There is really is no consensus on what pop is. But if we consider it to be music that is (or is meant to be) popular, as in radio-friendly, this song could easily be placed oustide of the pop box. I would say most people's notion of pop is built in terms of resemblance to what is universally accepted to be pop music, like Britney or Madonna for instance (but then we would have to explain why are these acts considered to be pop in the first place?) I like to think of pop as music that follows certain basic rules in terms of song structure (although I would find it almost impossible to state this rules) and production. I also think of pop as an inherently impure genre (unlike Rock, R&B, Jazz, Country, etc.) Back to The Legends song (this comment is getting too long), I guess we could safely place it into the (still very general) category of indie-pop.
Hmmm. I have now realized your post was a trap to find out how geeky I am about this stuff. And I totally fell for it!
It wasn't a trap, David...and thanks for the definition, "Seymour". :-)
