Today's post title applies for both, my prolonged absence from this blog (to which I have no excuse) and being about the penultimate person on the planet to join the
Lily Allen hype.
A lot has already been said about this 21 year old girl from London so I won't add much more, except maybe that the mellow, laidback ska-pop of her current single "Smile" is refusing to leave my head (in a good way) and that maybe you should check it out. You can do that for free at her
(my)space, and maybe you'll even be interested in buying her new album
Alright, Still which has recieved more or less the same amounts of
praise and
criticism from the music press.

I blurbed Lily some time ago, but have since been thinking more about her mean spirited persona on some of the songs. It's...well, interesting.
And I haven't forgotten that you promised us a piece on poptimism.
Except that I meant "rockism."
I'm working on it :)
So I put on my headphones and opened a speech analysis program…now everybody in the lab thinks I’m editing some speech sounds and not listening to Lily Allen. She isn’t bad. Somehow she goes with the summer…light, sprinkled with fun, not too much…not too little…exciting here and there…predictable there and here. Fresh-crispy voice, cute tunes, and scattered non-structured lyrics. My faves are ‘Smile’ and ‘Everything Just Wonderful’. I really enjoyed the intro of ‘Smile’ and the style of ‘Everything Just Wonderful’ fits her voice perfectly. I’m note sure about ‘Little Things’ – her voice is too high pitch, could be intentional – but still bothering. The lyrics of ‘Knock’em Out’ is super funny and the whole song is cool. I wouldn’t mind listening to her more and more – so I guess I liked her. :-)
Well, I have to say I don't dig her. Sounds like something that my 15 years old little sister would listen to on her Ipod. But nice try and cool entry, Daavid:-)And yes, what's up with rockism?
I really enjoyed the intro of ‘Smile’
Isn't it the best thing ever!...I mean, quite good?
Nice!
Jesus... welcome back! I haven't checked your blog in awhile, because you've been gone for so long... but it's nice to see you're still out there.
Unfortunately, your return is saddled with a Lily Allen post! Ick! Her nasty attitude eclipses my ability to like her.
I'd like to tie two sticks of dynamite to her face.
J'ason, I've paid very little attention to what Lilly Allen does or says... I guess I should probably keep it that way and just enjoy that smooth piano on "Smile".
